"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one."
-George R.R. Martin
With that, I thought I'd start with a book review. Like, what else can describe me better than me suggesting a perfect pick, right? So here I am, with the most beautiful book I've read this year (or tbh, in my life *weeps in happiness*).
THE HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA
TJ Klune
Found this gem while I was scrolling through one of my socials (I'm not sure which one, and I'm not even sure if it was on my socials at all. I don't remember where I found this, ugh!). As V. E. Schwab described it perfectly, this book truly feels like "being wrapped in a big gay blanket." The book cover attracted me the most and then I read the synopsis.
(Yes, I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but prove me wrong!!)
This book tells us a tale about magical children, an island, an orphanage where they all live with their master. The master is the most mysterious person, and is very protective about the magical children who live in the orphanage. But most importantly, he has a burning secret of his own.
And then, when an employee from the government, Linus Baker, goes for an inspection of the orphanage, these children change him forever. They make him see things in a different light and soon he is exposed to the love and cuteness which makes his (and your) heart ache sweetly.
My Review:
The House in the Cerulean Sea, is a fantasy-romance but it will teach you so, so much about life. The start is slow and easy which will make you feel very relaxed. If you need a cozy read to go with your hectic life, this book is a perfect pick for you!
The book picks its pace after a few chapters and doesn't fail to fill your heart as you go deeper into the book. The children are so adorable you can't help but go "awwww" on them. The bonding between them and with Arthur & Linus is portrayed ever so beautifully and you'll have a hard time to pick your favourite. As the relationships build, you'll not be able to put down the book nor you'll want the book to end. It has everything: a wholesome plot, magical events, adorable characters and a beautiful closure.
My review can never do justice to the beauty of this book. You HAVE to read it to understand what I mean when I say that this book is ethereal to the core. It's a 10/10 read!
Some Insights:
I think there was a reason why the author made it an LGBT romance. It seems so symbolic too. The book showed us that the magical youth were treated like an outcast and the people think they are unusual because they are different. They don't follow the general view of "normal". But what's important is that they all have the same innocent hearts and it's the person who matters and not what they are born like.
It's analogous to the LGBT community, you see. They have been subjected to oppression for ages. They are always treated differently because their preferences are different. But are they really? Just because they have different preferences doesn't mean they are unusual or an outcast. We go on and on about how it is love only when we adore the person inside and not their physical appearance. So why is it a problem to love someone of the same sex? The answer is, it is THEIR problem if they cannot accept you as you are, not yours.
But that's a topic of discussion for another time. Right now, I would love it if you read this book and experience the beauty of the plot. Or have you read it already and if so, how was it? Let me know in the comments!
Until then, bye bye!
Keep going dear Ayushi 😘😘
